On Sunday 6th Septemeber 2020 we hosted the annual Portesham Motor Show. The weather Gods were kind to us and it was a beautiful sunny day.

Even though this year was slightly precarious, due to Covid-19, with our strict social distancing rules in place everyone managed to view the beautiful classic and vintage cars. This year our line up was all British cars – of course, the best cars there are ;).

On Saturday 15th August 2020, we were joined by the singing group The Decadettes here at The Kings Arms, Portesham, to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of VJ Day. The Weymouth based female vocal quartet with vintage harmonies serenaded guests while they enjoyed Afternoon tea in our Beer Garden. Manager Scott even managed to get a short clip of the ladies in action.
As it was #AfternoonTeaWeek from 10th August – 16th August, chef Wendy whipped up some afternoon tea treats specifically for the VJ Day celebrations. The afternoon tea cake stand included:
A selection of finger sandwiches, including classic cucumber sandwiches on brown bread
A selection of cakes, including chocolate brownies and lemon drizzle cake
Scone with local Dorset clotted cream and strawberry jam
Tea or Coffee

Although it drizzled slightly (this is a British summer after all!), a lovely afternoon was had by all that attended and we made sure that those who fought for our freedom will always be remembered.

It’s set to be a week of Blood, Sweat and Tears at the Kings Arms…
With Halloween just a matter of days away, it sure has crept up on us but don’t fear as we have lots of frightfully fun events ready to be unleashed from the Kings Arms closet.
Our Monthly Quiz Night is held every last Thursday of the month at 8.30pm and this October it falls on Halloween itself, Thursday 31st October. Prepare yourself for an extra special quiz with a spooktacular twist in a cauldron mixed with general knowledge, current affairs and local questions. And why not reserve a table for a devilishly delectable dinner or order a sharing platter to get your teeth into throughout the night.
Pinch, punch, first of the month…there’ll be hustle and bustle on Friday 1st November from 9.30pm as we carry on the Halloween spirit with a pub party like no other. We’ll be casting a magic spell and transforming the whole pub in ghoulish decorations galore. Dig out your finest fancy dress and be a costume contender for the crown of best dressed and our mysterious prize. Professional covers band, Hustle will be rocking the party all night long, playing a beastly blend of funky disco, soul, pop and party anthems. Brush up on your dance moves as every song is a dance floor thriller!
While many will have lay their head to rest from the night before, the early bird definitely catches the worm the next morning for Saturday’s showdown as England are in the Rugby World Cup FINAL!
Live from our big screen, England will face South Africa in the International Stadium Yokohama for the World Champions title. Kick off takes place at 9.00am on 2nd November and there is breakfast on hand from half time at 9.45am in the form of a Full English or Bacon Butty.
Reminder that if you do want breakfast, you must book to inform us beforehand and have until 10pm on Friday to do so. Whether you’re starting a fresh or looking for a bit of “hair of the dog”, special drinks offers are available as always on Tarka 4 and Guinness.

As July rolls in and summer is upon us, the time comes to put your feet up and take that well-earned break you’ve been yearning for… Here at The Kings Arms however, there is no time to rest as we have lots of new and exciting events to bring you!
The Portesham Motor Show is one of our biggest events of the year and is GO on Sunday the 7th July! From 12 until 6pm, there’ll be cars in abundance of all models and makes, shapes and sizes, meaning there’s definitely something that everyone will love. You can expect everything from historic racing cars to American muscle cars or your vintage Ferrari’s, Rolls Royce’s and Aston Martin’s, to classic Land Rover’s, Ford’s and Truck’s…plus many more bangers to spectate!
If you’re feeling peckish, fear not… We’ll have oven-baked pizza available in The King’s Arms very own pizza shack from 2pm onwards and usual main menu food options from 12pm. Live Music will be playing all throughout the day, kick-starting with Lucy & Stacey duo “Til There Was Uke” from 12pm, followed by Steve Wilson & Simon Fulton at 2pm and finishing off with Hamish Jeffcott from 4pm into the evening. Electric atmosphere is always guaranteed!
There will be a prize giving from 6pm for the “Best Car in Show” as voted for by the public with the winner receiving a trophy to keep. In addition, tickets for “Coby’s Quiz” will be on sale in the garden for £2 with the winner getting a £50 Kings Arms meal voucher. And the fun doesn’t stop there as after the show, there will be a Coast Road Cruise where a number of lucky passengers can enjoy a 40 minute ride in a car of their choice, for a minimum £10 donation. Visit the show gazebo to secure your spot and get in on all the action!
Money raised from the quiz and cruise will to go towards a defibrillator as part of a joint project with the Portesham Volunteers and will be kept safe in the hands of The Kings Arms.
As if that’s not enough excitement, our new Summer Menu launched earlier this week, on Tuesday 2nd July. Packed full of punch, our delicious new dishes are perfect for the summer season, including light starters, salads and vegetarian options, whilst not forgetting the likes of our popular pub favourites..because can you really beat a good old fish and chips?
Be sure to book a table to eat in advance and why not make a stay of it in one of our four-star rated rooms? Each of our three rooms, Hardy’s, Chesil and Jurassic, named after local sites of interest are fully equipped with luxury beds and En-Suite shower rooms, as well as a smart TV and tea & coffee facilities. It is the perfect summer retreat… But do get in quick as we’re booking up fast! In the morning, wander down the road to Duck’s, our neighbouring Farm Shop & Cafe for a scrumptious breakfast and pick up some local, organic produce while you’re at it.
When all is said and done, relax and unwind by the beach. Just a short 15 minute drive away, on one of the world’s most scenic routes and officially ranked 16th on the UK’s 50 Greatest Drives, you’ll find yourself completely in awe and spoilt for choice, along the famous Jurassic Coast. Soak up some sun and brave a dip in the sea, before making your way back for a chilled pint in our beer garden.
