Duck Race – Boxing Day -11AM

Duck Race

(Ducks on sale from Saturday 10th December)

 Boxing Day

11AM

At our inaugural race last year the standard was very much set. With a prize for the best dressed duck, along with a prize for winning duck.

Ducks are £5, and advised to reserve in advance.  A fantastic fun event for the whole family as their ducks race down the village stream – which is pretty fast flowing.

As usual we are raising funds for a charity that is personally very close to us. At three weeks old our son Thomas (now rising five and in full health) developed a life threatening illness that passed between Mum and Baby at birth. For four days Thomas literally fought for his life.

Few have heard of the infection Group B Strep, yet it is the most common cause of life threatening infection (meningitis and/or septicaemia) in newborn babies and effects over 700 babies each year, with a high percentage having life changing effects. It also carries a 25% mortality rate. Yet the UK is one of the few western nations who do not discuss or test for it as routine during ante-natal care. If detected it is easily treatable during labour.

The charity is Group B Strep Support (GBSS) who work tirelessly to raise awareness and prevent the infection.

The Dragon Boats, back in the summer raised £550 organised by Melcombe Regis Rotary Club and they have kindly donated a further £150 to kick start the launch of this years Duck Race.

You can read more about the charity and its efforts here http://gbss.org.uk

We look forward to seeing you.
Best wishes
Jo & Lee
