Locally Sourced Food, Cooked to Order
Wherever possible we source our ingredients, food and drink from local Dorset farms and suppliers to create dishes that reflect our unique location – where coast meets country. This ensures that the ingredients in our food are as fresh as possible, being very low in food miles, and we think you can really taste the difference. All our meals use fresh produce and are cooked to order.
Restaurant
Our restaurant in the heart of the Dorset countryside is open all week. Our opening times are 11.30 am – 11 pm Monday – Thursday food being served from 12 pm – 2.30pm & 5.30pm – 8.30pm, Friday 12pm – 2.30pm & 5.30pm – 9pm, Saturday 12pm – 9pm & Sunday 12pm – 8.00pm. Our restaurant is fully table service, while in the summer our outside seating area can be either table service or you can order at the bar.
We serve a selection of seasonal small plates, daily specials, classic favourites as well as exciting mains and puddings on our main menu. We also offer a lunch time menu, all that change with the seasons. Whether it’s juicy pork chops, slowly braised lamb hotpot or classic fish and chips, you can be guaranteed that our dishes are a true reflection of our unique Dorset position… ‘where coast meets country’.

Sunday Roasts
On Sundays, we serve traditional roasts and vegetarian options. Whatever your choice, we are sure you will enjoy a relaxing Sunday Lunch at the Kings Arms, where we do all the work for you; bonus there’s no washing up!
Please remember if you have a request for something which is not on the menu our chefs will try their hardest to accommodate you. We can cater for vegans, vegetarians, gluten-free and those with allergies – just ask!
Bar
At the Kings Arms Portesham, we have 3 traditional open log fires for the winter months and a wonderful garden for the summer months where you can enjoy a drink while you watch the world go by, or to accompany your meal.
Beers and lagers
We are Cask Marque accredited and serve an excellent selection of real ales. We offer a choice of 4 real ales which we change regularly but will often feature some of the best West Country breweries including Otter, Exmoor Ales, Cerne Abbas & St Austell along with a selection of guest ales.
We also have 10 keg products including craft lagers, stouts and premium lagers as well as Goram Zero on draught
Cider
It’s not the West Country without cider! We have the award-winning Wildsider on draught, along with a range of seasonal boxed ciders in the summer, as well as Annings bottled cider in various flavours.
Wines
We offer a great selection of fine wines all selected by our wine merchant working directly with the producers, the full list is available here.
All whites, red & roses are available in 175ml, 250ml, and by the bottle.
Spirits
We have a wide choice of Gins, Rums, Whiskey, Vodka and other branded spirits, which can be paired with the a comprehensive range of Fever Tree tonics.
In addition, we also offer a comprehensive range of soft drinks, a full range of bottled low & zero and a good selection of bar snacks including olives, crisps, pork scratchings and nuts.
